Another way to describe it is through the word fountain. It's describing a natural source of living water. Genesis 7:11 tells us: "On the seventeenth day of the second month of the 600th year of Noah's life all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of the sky were opened." In Genesis 8:2-3 it adds: "Also the fountains of the deep and the windows of the sky were stopped, the rain from the sky was restrained, and the water came back from completely covering the earth. It was after 150 days that the water went down."
Our spirit should be searching these deep things of Yehweh (Father). Look at Psalm 42. Its a prayer which all good psalms are. A maschil, in this case a lesson of wisdom and reverence. Written by one of the sons of Korah while King David was in exile from Absalom. He's mourning from the absence of King David in the sanctuary. Let's read it. (For those who don't understand why there are two sets of verses with one in brackets, the Hebrew in some cases includes verse 1 as the notes.)
Psalm 42. (Complete Jewish Bible.)
1 (0) For the leader. A maskil of the descendants of Korach:
2 (1) Just as a deer longs for running streams,
God, I long for you.
3 (2) I am thirsty for God, for the living God!
When can I come and appear before God?
4 (3) My tears are my food, day and night,
while all day people ask me, “Where is your God?”
5 (4) I recall, as my feelings well up within me,
how I’d go with the crowd to the House of God,
with sounds of joy and praise from the throngs
observing the festival.
6 (5) My soul, why are you so downcast?
Why are you groaning inside me?
Hope in God, since I will praise him again
for the salvation that comes from His Presence.
7 (6) My God, when I feel so downcast,
I remind myself of You
from the land of Yarden, from the peaks of Hermon,
from the hill Mizar.
8 (7) Deep is calling to deep
at the thunder of Your waterfalls;
all Your surging rapids and waves
are sweeping over me.
9 (8) By day ADONAI commands His grace,
and at night His song is with me
as a prayer to the God of my life.
10 (9) I say to God my Rock,
“Why have You forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
under pressure by the enemy?
11 (10) My adversaries’ taunts make me feel
as if my bones were crushed,
as they ask me all day long,
‘Where is your God?’ ”
12 (11) My soul, why are you so downcast?
Why are you groaning inside me?
Hope in God, since I will praise Him again
for being my Saviour and God.
It's a song for the sons of Korah. King David was in exile and longed to be back in Jerusalem. (1) The deer will stay under water to escape being prey until he is panting for air. (2) So we are also panting for righteousness (spiritually thirsting). (3) Thirsting for the Living God, righteousness, waters of salvation, wisdom & spiritual baptism. (4) It is a Holy day, three times a year when the men go up to Jerusalem singing songs of joy and praise. (5&6) Why are you cast down, depressed and bent down? Humble yourself. This may show David after fleeing Absalom. (7) Deep calls to deep. Literally a confused noise. Is this Hurricane Earl (4 August 2016) with its confused waves? Or the waves of a waterspout. (8) But David's faith was renewed when he remembered Yehweh's goodness. (10) Still has many questions. (11) Disquieted and anxious but Yehweh's salvation and safety uplift his countenance.
Three more DEEP things to think about. I went to cinema yesterday evening. The film was Jason Bourne. In it there was Deep Dream, an internet application with a Jewish chap (Aaron) as CEO. Is this a reference to Facebook? He was in deep trouble with CIA who were using him. CIA finance all these things (in the real world) and then ask for favours. There's also been a DEEP Trench with a M7.7 earthquake at Northern Mariana Islands. Also, Hurricane Earl in the Caribbean Sea in the DEEP waters (very deep for waters which aren't oceans) where asteroid hit in Noah's time. Does Mercury's nearness to crescent moon denote something deep? Does crescent moon mean the beginning of something? Could there be more DEEP things about to happen. We wait and see.
Consider the Fountain of the Virgin which is the never ending source of the Pool of Siloam. The waters flow through a tunnel cut out of the rock. It's the only unfailing fountain in Jerusalem. Think about this. It's a picture of our LORD Yahusha - eternal, righteous, a sure place and perfect. Also, it received this name from the story that Mary washed the swaddling clothes of Yahusha (Jesus) in the waters. (John 9:7.) "And He said to him, Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam—which means Sent. So he went and washed, and came back seeing." AMaN.
