Ecclesiastes 1:8.
"All things are wearisome, more than one can say.The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing."
Psalms 115:6.
"They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell."
Colossians 2:21.
“Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”?
The invisible one is (from Young's Literal Translation, to add effect, it's such a beautiful version. Capitals are my emphasis.): 1 Kings 19:9-13. "And he cometh in there, unto the cave, and lodgeth there, and lo, the word of Jehovah [is] unto him, and saith to him, What-- to thee, here, Elijah? ' And he saith, I have been very zealous for Jehovah, God of Hosts, for the sons of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant-- Thine altars they have thrown down, and Thy prophets they have slain by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life-- to take it.' And He saith, Go out, and thou hast stood in the mount before Jehovah. 'And lo, Jehovah is passing by, and a wind-- great and strong-- is rending mountains, and shivering rocks before Jehovah:-- not in the wind [is] Jehovah; and after the wind a shaking:-- not in the shaking [is] Jehovah; and after the shaking a fire:-- not in the fire [is] Jehovah; and after the fire a VOICE STILL SMALL; and it cometh to pass, at Elijah's hearing [it], that he wrappeth his face in his robe, and goeth out, and standeth at the opening of the cave, and lo, unto him [is] a voice, and it saith, What-- to thee, here, Elijah?' "
It's quite complex but essentially this was an audible voice! It was an awful exhibition of Divine power! The Divine Presence got his attention. His voice was shut (as well as his temper). His heart touched. After this, he returned to complete the job! He was to anoint three people: Hazael, king of Aram; Jehu, son of Nimshi, king over Israel (the northern nation) and Elisha son of Shaphat as his successor. However, he only anointed Elisha himself. Elisha was responsible for the way the other two were anointed. By these three Israel was judged. They would not go unpunished for their rebellion.
Not all of us have heard the audible voice of God. We have, however, heard: (John 14:26. YLT.) "and the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all things that I said to you." He has the divine power and authority to make in our souls what Jesus has taught.
It's a spiritual voice we listen to therefore. (John 16:15.) "All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” Listen attentively so that we hear His voice.
